Haters can hate all they want, but director MICHAEL BAY is laughing all the way to the bank this weekend. The 4th installment of the blockbuster franchise, TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION starring MARK WAHLBERG and NICOLA PELTZ just posted a massive opening of $100 million! That officially surpasses ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ (which opened to $95 million back in April) as the biggest opening of the year.

Overseas the film is also torching the box office by collecting the biggest opening weekend internationally of 2014 with $201.3 million from just 37 territories (not including domestic). The film shot to the top spot in every market it opened in, and is up 35% over the opening of the previous entry “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon”. A chunk of the international gross was made in China where it’s on track to score $90 million for the weekend. That brings its worldwide total to $300 million in its first week!

Looks like it paid off to partner with a local production company in China and casting Hong Kong star LI BINGBING (Forbidden Kingdom) in the film. There is also quite a few nods to Asian Film fans in the movie as well. Did any of you guys notice the cameos by Hong Kong actors RAY LUI (Flashpoint, Firestorm) and MICHAEL WONG (The Man From Macau)? How about KEN WATANABE (The Last Samurai, Godzilla) voicing the samurai Autobot? That was pretty cool.

Despite being trashed by the critics, I still enjoyed it for what it is: a mindless ‘Michael Bay’-style action blockbuster with robots blowing sh*t up for close to 3 hours! The always likeable Mark Wahlberg fit into the movie like a glove replacing the original’s Shia Labeouf. And seeing Wahlberg wielding around an alien gun shooting giant robots is much more believable than Labeouf I might say. Not to mention the ‘Megan Fox’ factor with newcomer Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender). With a testosterone-filled movie like this, director Michael Bay always tend to balance it out with a little eye candy for the male audiences like myself. Love him or hate him, Bay delivers the goods when it comes to summer blockbuster. The numbers do not lie.

I for one am looking forward to more sh*t gettin’ blown up (in SLOW-MO!) in part 5!
