Oscar winning director Ang Lee (Life of Pi) is set to helm a film about Bruce Lee starring his son Mason Lee (Limbo).
Best known by martial arts fans for his breakthrough film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Lee will direct the biopic about the martial arts legend from a script adapted by Dan Futterman (Capote). Jean Castelli, Alex Law, Mabel Cheung and Wells Tower wrote earlier versions of the screenplay.
Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee is producing alongside Ang Lee, Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard, and Brian Bell.
“Accepted as neither fully American nor Fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Gung Fu to the world, a scientist of combat and an iconic performing artist who revolutionized both the martial arts and action cinema. I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging, possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams into reality,” said Ang Lee.
