Sony & Marvel Team-Up To Bring SPIDER-MAN Into MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE. UPDATE: TOM HOLLAND Cast As ‘Spidey’

UPDATE: After a very long process of numerous auditions from various candidates, Marvel have found its new SPIDER-MAN in actor TOM HOLLAND (The Impossible)!

Director JON WATTS (Cop Car) have also been chosen to direct the next ‘Spider-Man’ film scheduled to open on July 28, 2017.

Holland is expected to make his debut as the web-slinger in next year’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, TOM ROTHMAN stated: “It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

UPDATE: According to The Wall Street Journal, SPIDER-MAN will be appearing in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR!

“The two companies said late Monday that Spider-Man will appear in an upcoming Disney-produced Marvel super-heroes movie; that movie is 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

UPDATE: According to THE WRAP. ANDREW GARFIELD will NOT be returning as Spider-Man. It looks like Sony and Marvel will be looking for a NEW face to play Spidey.

After numerous rumors and ongoing negotiations, it looks like SONY PICTURES have finally budge into partnering with MARVEL to bring our friendly neighborhood SPIDER-MAN into the MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE!

What more can I say but….WOOOHOOOO!!!! Here are the two major points from this announcement:

1. “Marvel’s Kevin Feige to Produce Next Installment of the Spider-Man Franchise with Amy Pascal” – This is awesome to hear! MARVEL will finally be running the show for the next ‘Spider-Man’ film. Considering how underwhelming ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ performed at the box office, it is nice to know that the franchise is now in good hands. The new film will hit theaters on July 28, 2017!

2. “New Spider-Man Will Appear First in an Upcoming Marvel Film Within Marvel’s Cinematic Universe” – What better film to introduce Spidey into the MCU than CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

For those unfamiliar with the plot, the comic book version follows a “storyline in which the U.S. government passes a Superhero Registration Act ostensibly designed to have superpowered characters act under official regulation, somewhat akin to police officers. However, those opposed to the act, led by Captain America, find themselves in conflict with those in support of the act, led by Iron Man, with Spider-Man caught in the middle.”

Of course the cinematic version will probably be slightly different, but now that Marvel got their hands on Spidey it makes TOO MUCH SENSE to finally introduce him in this film. The only question now is that if they DO go this route, will ANDREW GARFIELD (The Amazing Spider-Man) return as the web-slinger? Or will Marvel decides to start from scratch and get a new actor for the role? Or maybe, just MAYBE original ‘Spider-Man’ TOBEY MAGUIRE could come back?

Who do you guys prefer?

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is due in theaters on May 6, 2016.

Stay tuned for more details!
