SYNOPSIS: Starring global superstar Matt Damon and directed by one of the most breathtaking visual stylists of our time, Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), Legendary’s The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. The first English-language production for Yimou is the largest film ever shot entirely in China. The Great Wall also stars Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau.

UPDATE: Plot details have emerged via Asian Movie Pulse stating that THE GREAT WALL will be mixing SCI-FI elements into its story by having the “real” reason the Wall was built is because of “unrecorded invasion of giant mythical creatures. In this grievous battle against the supernatural, humankind opted to fortify its defenses with a massive wall that will keep their enemies at bay as the most elite forces create a strategy that will help them tip the odds to their favor.”
So a ‘Pacific Rim’-style historical epic directed by ZHANG YIMOU? This will definitely be interesting.

LEGENDARY PICTURES have announced the full cast for the upcoming epic THE GREAT WALL directed by ZHANG YIMOU (Hero, House Of Flying Daggers).
Leading the Hollywood/China ensamble cast is none other than the two actors who played each other’s roles in ‘Infernal Affairs’ and the Hollywood remake ‘The Departed’, MATT DAMON (The Bourne Identity) and ANDY LAU (Firestorm)!
Other members of the cast includes PEDRO PASCAL (TV’s Game of Thrones), WILLEM DAFOE (John Wick), JING TIAN (New Police Story, Special ID), ZHANG HANYU (Taking Tiger Mountain), EDDIE PENG (Rise Of The Legend), LU HAN (Miss Granny), and LIN GENGXIN (Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon).
The film follows “an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure”, The Great Wall of China.
Production is set to begin in China at the end of this month with a 3D release targeted for November 23, 2016. The Chinese market will open around the 2016 holiday season.
