The martial arts icon recently revealed that he’s developing a micro-drama project aimed at reshaping how global audiences understand the term. While many associate kung fu strictly with combat, Li is using this short-form storytelling format to highlight its deeper, more philosophical meaning.
According to Li, kung fu isn’t limited to martial arts at all. Instead, it represents mastery achieved through time, discipline, and dedication—something that can apply to any craft, not just fighting. Titled Yuan Li Jiang Hu aka Sword’s Return, the project features Li in a guest starring role alongside Tsao Yu Ning (Kano), Cheng Guo (Love Blossoms with the Wind), Du Ya Fei (I Love You In My Dreams) and martial arts practitioner and fitness influencer, Sun Linya.
Yuan Li Jiang Hu leans into the growing popularity of bite-sized, mobile-friendly content, particularly in China, where micro-dramas have exploded in recent years. By embracing the format, Li is aiming to reach younger viewers who may be more accustomed to quick, serialized storytelling than traditional films or television.
Rather than focusing purely on action, the series is expected to explore personal growth, perseverance, and the journey toward mastery—core themes that align with Li’s broader definition of kung fu.
