From ‘The Monkey King’ starring Donnie Yen to Stephen Chow’s ‘Journey To The West’, there have been a resurgence of films recently about the mystical folklore. The latest is WU KONG directed by DEREK KWOK, who was the co-director on ‘Journey To The West’. Kwok seems to have gone the “Batman Begins” route with a darker stylistic take on the ‘Monkey King’.

The film stars EDDIE PENG (Rise Of The Legend, Call Of Heroes) in the title role, SHAWN YUE (Dragon Tiger Gate), NI NI (The Warrrior’s Gate), and ZHENG SHUANG.

SYNOPSIS: Wukong, born in Huaguo Mountain, has a heart of stone. Ji Hua, a powerful general from the heaven was going to terminate him. But Wukong was rescued by Bodhi and became his pupil. Jian Yang, was given an opportunity to become a strong god, but he needs to kill Zixia, the daughter of the Heaven Emperor’s rival, who he is in love with. Tianpeng, Ji Hua’s bodyguard, was given the secret order to investigate Wukong. All three of them entered the Heaven school together, and their lives are about to change.

‘Wu Kong’ opens on July 13th, 2017.
