UPDATE: The official cast of Thunderbolts has been revealed at D23 Expo! The team includes Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as Valentina, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker aka U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as the Ghost, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier.

Marvel Studios has tapped Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) to direct Thunderbolts with Eric Pearson (Black Widow) set to write the script.

Thunderbolts can be described as Marvel’s version of The Suicide Squad as the team consists of supervillains and antiheroes. In the comics, the team was led by Baron Zemo, with other members including Songbird, Moonstone, Taskmaster, U.S. Agent, Crossbones, Abomination, Ghost, and more. The team got it’s name from General Thunderbolt Ross, who was played by the late William Hurt in the MCU.

The seeds for the team have already been planted in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow, both of which featured scenes of Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julie Louis-Dreyfuss) recruiting John Walker / U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) to work for her.

Produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, production on the film may start sometime in 2023.
