Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser art for Butterfly, an upcoming spy-thriller series starring and executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim (Avatar: The Last Airbender). Based on the graphic novel from BOOM! Studios, Butterfly will premiere globally on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, with all six episodes available at launch.
The high-stakes series centers on David Jung (Kim), a mysterious and volatile former U.S. intelligence operative now living off the grid in South Korea. His carefully constructed life unravels when a dark decision from his past resurfaces, putting him in the crosshairs of Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a ruthless young assassin working for a shadowy spy agency known as Caddis.
Also starring are Piper Perabo (Yellowstone), and Louis Landau (Rivals). The recurring cast features an impressive lineup of talent including Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim. Guest stars include Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa.
“Butterfly is the realization of a longtime dream—to bring together American and Korean creatives for a series that connects two cultures I care deeply about,” said Kim. “The team we’ve assembled, on both sides of the camera, has been incredible. I’m truly proud of what we’ve built.”
Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist) serves as showrunner and co-creator alongside award-winning novelist Steph Cha. The series is executive produced by Woodruff and Cha, along with Daniel Dae Kim and John Cheng for 3AD, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for BOOM! Studios, and Arash Amel for The Amel Company. Adam Yoelin also serves as co-executive producer for BOOM! Studios.
Butterfly was developed by Kim’s production banner, 3AD, under its first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios. The series’ first two episodes are directed by Kitao Sakurai.
