A potential new chapter in the long-running Police Story franchise is taking shape—and it could reunite two of Hong Kong cinema’s most iconic action stars.
According to emerging reports, director Stanley Tong is developing Supercop: Reborn, a sequel to the 1992 classic Police Story 3: Supercop. The project has reportedly been filed with Chinese film authorities, signaling early movement toward production.
If the film moves forward, it could bring Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh back together on screen for the first time in decades—a reunion fans have long hoped for since their explosive pairing in the original film.
Plot details remain limited, but the reported premise leans into a more modern, international action-thriller tone. The story follows Chan’s character and his ex-wife—both retired officers—who travel to Europe after their daughter is kidnapped. Their search uncovers a dangerous human trafficking and organ-harvesting network, pushing the narrative into darker, high-stakes territory.
The concept suggests a shift toward a more grounded and emotionally driven story, echoing the global revenge framework popularized by films like Taken, while still leaving room for the franchise’s signature stunt-heavy action.
Originally released in 1992, Supercop marked a major milestone for the Police Story series. It paired Chan’s daredevil physical comedy with Yeoh’s fierce, stunt-driven performance—helping introduce her to international audiences and cementing the film as a standout in Hong Kong action cinema.
The franchise has taken several different directions over the years, including reboots like New Police Story and Police Story: Lockdown, each adopting a progressively darker tone.
Tong, who directed Supercop and later entries like First Strike, appears to be aiming for a return to the series’ roots—albeit with a modernized edge.
Supercop: Reborn is just one of several projects reportedly in development for Tong, many of which are said to involve Chan. However, with multiple Police Story-related projects already announced in recent years—including a separate sequel to New Police Story—the franchise’s future remains somewhat unclear.
For now, Supercop: Reborn sits in early development, and it’s too soon to know whether the long-awaited Chan and Yeoh reunion will officially happen. But if it does, it could mark a major nostalgic return for one of action cinema’s most beloved pairings—and give the Police Story series the jolt of energy it’s been missing.
