Scott Adkins Steps Behind the Camera For Brutal MMA Thriller Brawler With Lewis Tan

Martial arts star Scott Adkins (Prisoner of War) is leveling up his career in a big way. Adkins is set to make his directorial debut with Brawler, a hard-hitting MMA thriller that will also see him sharing the screen with Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat II).

The film follows a disgraced MMA fighter who is pulled back into a violent underworld he thought he’d left behind. As old enemies resurface and the stakes turn deadly, he’s forced to rely on his combat skills to survive—and protect those closest to him. Expect plenty of bone-crunching action as the story dives into themes of redemption, survival, and the cost of past mistakes.

For Adkins, Brawler marks a major turning point. Best known for fan-favorite roles in high-octane action films, the actor has long been celebrated for his physicality and fight choreography. Now, he’s taking creative control behind the lens, shaping the action from both sides of the camera.

Tan, no stranger to the genre himself, brings his own action pedigree to the project, setting the stage for what could be a standout on-screen clash between two seasoned martial arts stars.

The screenplay comes from Matt Venne, with frequent Adkins collaborator Tim Man (Accident Man) handling the film’s fight choreography.

Currently in production in the UK, Brawler is heading to the Cannes market, where it’s expected to draw strong interest from buyers looking for gritty, action-driven fare with global appeal.

With Adkins calling the shots and stepping into the ring, Brawler is shaping up to be more than just another fight film—it’s a passion project that could redefine the next phase of his career.
