UPDATE: Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the principal cast of its highly anticipated X-Men reboot, revealing a new generation of mutants who will bring the iconic team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The announcement was made during Disney’s D23 presentation, confirming Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. They join previously announced stars Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost.
Navarrette, best known for 13 Reasons Why and Obsession, will portray Rogue, one of the X-Men’s most recognizable members. The character is famous for her ability to absorb the memories, abilities and powers of anyone she touches, making her one of the most potentially dangerous members of the team.
Meanwhile, Abbott will take over the role of Professor X, the powerful telepath and founder of the X-Men. The casting marks a fresh interpretation of Charles Xavier following Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy’s respective portrayals in the previous X-Men films.
Maya Boyd has also been cast as Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm. In the comics, Storm is one of the X-Men’s most powerful members, possessing the ability to manipulate weather and eventually becoming one of the team’s most important leaders.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is Adam Driver’s casting as Mister Sinister. The Star Wars and Marriage Story star will play the film’s primary villain, bringing Marvel one of the X-Men’s most notorious comic-book antagonists into live action for the first time. Mister Sinister, whose real name is Nathaniel Essex, is a genetically obsessed scientist who has spent centuries experimenting with mutant DNA.
Driver’s casting is particularly notable given that the actor was previously linked to the MCU in connection with other roles. His eventual arrival in the franchise as Mister Sinister gives Marvel a major star to anchor the reboot’s villainous side.
The new cast is being assembled by director Jake Schreier, who previously helmed Thunderbolts*. The screenplay comes from Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, with the project based on a story by Michael Lesslie.
The film is expected to represent a major new chapter for Marvel’s mutants following the end of Fox’s long-running X-Men franchise. While characters such as Wolverine and other legacy X-Men have already appeared in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, this movie will establish Marvel Studios’ own version of the mutant team.
Marvel has set X-Men for a theatrical release on May 5, 2028. With a new Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue and Storm—and Adam Driver waiting on the other side as Mister Sinister—the MCU’s long-awaited mutant era is officially taking shape.

UPDATE: Marvel Studios appears to have found the actor to lead the next generation of mutants.
According to multiple reports, Heartstopper breakout Kit Connor is being lined up to play Scott Summers/Cyclops in Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated X-Men reboot. While the studio has yet to officially confirm the casting, Connor is reportedly the top choice to portray the iconic mutant leader, one of the franchise’s most recognizable heroes.
If finalized, Connor would join an increasingly exciting ensemble for the MCU’s first standalone X-Men film. Recent reports indicate Sadie Sink has been cast as Jean Grey, while Samara Weaving is expected to portray Emma Frost, bringing two of Cyclops’ most significant comic book relationships into the new cinematic universe.
Connor is best known for his acclaimed performance as Nick Nelson in Netflix’s Heartstopper, a role that earned him widespread praise and established him as one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising young actors. Beyond the hit coming-of-age series, he has continued to expand his résumé with roles in Warfare, a stage production of Romeo & Juliet, and the upcoming Elden Ring film adaptation.
Cyclops has previously been portrayed on the big screen by James Marsden in the original X-Men trilogy and by Tye Sheridan in the prequel films. Connor’s reported casting signals Marvel’s intention to introduce a fresh generation of mutants while longtime franchise veterans are expected to make their final appearances in Avengers: Doomsday before the reboot officially begins.

Marvel Studios has reportedly found its White Queen.
According to Deadline, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not 2: Here I Come) is set to portray Emma Frost in the highly anticipated X-Men movie, marking one of the biggest casting additions yet for the studio’s long-awaited mutant relaunch. The report states that the decision came after director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*) and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spent the summer meeting with and auditioning several actresses before selecting Weaving for the coveted role.
Emma Frost is one of Marvel’s most recognizable mutant characters. Introduced as a telepathic adversary of the X-Men before evolving into one of the team’s most complex allies, the character is known for her razor-sharp intellect, immense psychic abilities, and her signature secondary mutation that allows her to transform into an organic diamond form.
Weaving’s casting adds another high-profile name to Marvel’s growing mutant roster. Best known for standout performances in films such as Ready or Not, The Babysitter, and Azrael, the actress has built a reputation for blending charisma, action, and dark humor—qualities that could make her a natural fit for the calculating yet layered Emma Frost.
The role has previously been portrayed in live-action by Tahyna Tozzi, who appeared as a version of Emma Frost in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and later by January Jones, whose performance in X-Men: First Class introduced audiences to the White Queen as a key member of the Hellfire Club.
Marvel has remained tight-lipped about the reboot’s plot, but the film is expected to usher mutants fully into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. Schreier is directing from a screenplay that has undergone revisions by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, building on an earlier draft by Michael Lesslie.
While Marvel has yet to officially confirm Weaving’s casting, the reported addition signals that the studio is rapidly assembling its new generation of mutants. With Emma Frost now seemingly in place, anticipation continues to grow as fans await the remaining cast announcements for what is expected to be one of Marvel Studios’ most important projects of the next era.
