Keanu Reeves Boards New Action Thriller Kill Current

Keanu Reeves (John Wick franchise) is heading back into action with Kill Current, a new thriller based on Oliver Lowe’s upcoming novel Kill Current: A Jon Hendricks Thriller.

The film has been acquired by independent studio The Arena, which will finance and produce the adaptation. Reeves is attached to star as Jon Hendricks, a burned-out CIA operative who is forced back into the field after the death of a protégé he once trained. As Hendricks pursues revenge, he becomes caught up in a globe-spanning conflict involving shifting alliances and a race for some of the world’s most valuable resources.

The project will also mark the first film from Two Dragonflies, the new production banner founded by Reeves and Alexandra Grant. The pair will produce Kill Current, with Molly Stern and Zando executive producing.

The source material is the first installment in a planned series of thrillers centered on Hendricks. Written by Casey Stegman under the pen name Oliver Lowe, the novel is scheduled to be published by Zando in May 2027. The story explores contemporary geopolitical issues including semiconductors, global supply chains, and technological and information warfare.

For Reeves, Kill Current offers another opportunity to headline a potential action franchise following his hugely successful run as John Wick. John Wick: Chapter 4 earned nearly $450 million worldwide, while the franchise continues to expand with the Donnie Yen led Caine spinoff and a fifth John Wick movie currently in development.

The Arena was launched by producer Erik Feig with a focus on developing global event franchises. Feig praised Reeves as a performer who embodies the type of intelligent action-driven properties the company hopes to build.

No director, additional cast members, or release date have been announced for Kill Current at this time.
