Eddie Peng’s next action role puts a dangerous twist on the art of healing.
In The Healer, the Operation Mekong and Cold War 2 star plays a blind acupuncturist whose attempt to leave violence behind is threatened by a criminal targeting a boy in his care.
Ewan Mitchell, known for playing Aemond Targaryen in House of the Dragon, stars opposite Peng as gang boss Dandy Lynch.
Peng’s character has built a quieter life treating people in need, but protecting young Soly, played by Smylie Bradwell, forces him to draw on skills he hoped never to use again.
His understanding of anatomy becomes a means of fighting back, turning the knowledge that helps him treat patients into a formidable advantage against his enemies.
The premise sets up a struggle between his commitment to saving lives and the violent past he cannot fully escape.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Can Aydin, whose background includes stunt coordination and second-unit directing on productions such as The Fall Guy, Thunderbolts and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Joining the leads are Georgina Beedle and Jameela Jamil, with Molly Hassell producing alongside Jason Eric Laciste, Dejan Ahrens and Jonah Greenberg.
Filming took place in Budapest, Hungary, and international sales launched at the Cannes market in May.
Jeffrey Chan’s 66cc is handling Asian sales, Highland Film Group represents other international territories, and CAA Media Finance is handling U.S. rights.
Highland currently lists The Healer as being in post-production.
