Rumors are swirling that martial arts legend Jet Li (Mulan) may be set to join Wu Jing (The Meg 2) and Nicolas Tse (Customs Frontline) in the upcoming film Blades of the Guardians.
The story is set in 607 AD and people are living under the rule of the evil Emperor Yang Guang of the Sui Dynasty. An extremely skilled armed escort traverses the desert of the Western Regions. While pursued by the imperial court, he takes on an escort mission with the destination of Chang’an, the capital. Mistaking it for a simple escort mission, unexpected dangers surface and a shocking conspiracy is revealed.
The movie, which is an adaptation of a well-known manhua (Chinese comic) of the same name, is generating considerable buzz among fans of the genre. Although the casting news has not yet been officially confirmed, the possibility of Li’s involvement has sparked significant excitement. Tony Leung Ka-fai (Chasing the Dragon 2) and Kara Hui (Sakra) are also expected to appear in the film.
The legendary Yuen Woo Ping (Master Z: Ip Man Legacy) is set to take the helm as the film promises to deliver thrilling martial arts action, and Li’s participation would undoubtedly add to its appeal.
Blades of the Guardians is expected to start production next July. Stay tuned for official announcements to confirm these rumors and provide more details about the project.
