Director Chaya Supannarat, known for her breakout debut Bangkok Dog, is set to unveil her second feature, Gladiator Underground, at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The martial arts action film is backed by Bleiberg/Dimbort and marks a reunion with Bangkok Dog lead D.Y. Sao (Shadow Master).
Joining Sao in the cast are Martial Club brothers Andy Le (The Paper Tigers) and Brian Le (American Born Chinese). All three actors are acclaimed for their dynamic stunt work in titles like Unlucky Stars (2015), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), and the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), making their collaboration a major highlight for action cinema fans.
Set in a brutal underground fighting ring, Gladiator Underground follows longtime rivals Max and Wu as they battle for survival in a deadly tournament controlled by powerful crime lords. These syndicates manipulate every aspect of the combat—from matchups and arenas to the choice of weapons—creating a bloodsport where one misstep can be fatal. As the stakes rise, Max and Wu must choose between following the rules or joining forces to take down the corrupt system from within.
A trailer for Gladiator Underground is expected to drop soon.
