A new production venture is aiming to put Southeast Asian genre filmmaking firmly in the global spotlight.
Indochina Productions — the Thailand-based company behind production services on major international titles including HBO’s The White Lotus — has teamed with Los Angeles indie studio Storyoscopic Films to launch BKK Films, a new Bangkok-headquartered production company focused on developing and producing globally oriented feature films.
The partnership brings together Storyoscopic’s experience producing independent genre projects with Indochina’s extensive production infrastructure and deep roots in Southeast Asia. The goal for BKK Films is to create internationally appealing films that draw from regional stories, talent, and locations, while delivering the kind of scale and style audiences expect from modern action and genre cinema.
Leading the venture are Storyoscopic co-founders George Lee and Marcus Englefield alongside Indochina Productions founder Nicholas Simon. While Thailand will serve as the primary base of operations, the company plans to develop projects across Southeast Asia and other international markets.
One of the first titles on the slate is 7 Guns, a stylized gangster thriller starring Andrew Koji (Warrior, Street Fighter). The film will mark the feature directing debut of filmmaker Beau Fowler and is expected to blend crime drama with kinetic action set against the backdrop of Thailand’s criminal underworld. Koji will also serve as a producer on the project alongside Lee, Englefield, Simon, Fowler, and Ki Films’ David Mullenger.
For Indochina, the move marks a notable shift from primarily servicing large international productions to developing original films from within the region. The company has long been a key player in facilitating global shoots across Southeast Asia, but BKK Films signals a push to help generate stories that originate there.
With global audiences increasingly embracing international action cinema and Asian talent continuing to break through worldwide, BKK Films hopes to carve out a niche producing character-driven genre movies that highlight Southeast Asia’s filmmaking voices while maintaining broad global appeal.
