Mortal Kombat star Joe Taslim (The Furious) is set to star in the Indonesian remake of the classic Korean actioner The Man From Nowhere. Taslim may be reuniting with the director of The Furious as Kenji Tanigaki (Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In) is in talks to take the helm.
The remake is one of the first project under the newly formed joint venture between Asia Media Alliance Group and Nation Pictures.
The partnership aims to develop and produce a slate of Indonesian films designed for both local audiences and international markets, signaling a major step forward for Southeast Asia’s rapidly growing entertainment sector. Known worldwide for their explosive work in films like The Raid and The Night Comes for Us, martial arts stars Iko Uwais and Taslim will play a key role in shaping the creative direction of the venture’s projects alongside John Radel, the producer and cinematographer behind Asia Media Alliance Group, with Delon Tio, the Jakarta-based producer who heads Nation Pictures. Hong Kong-based producer Mike Leeder of Red Packet Media is also part of the partnership.
The initiative is focused on elevating Indonesian storytelling while maintaining a strong commercial appeal, with action films expected to be a central pillar of the slate. Both stars have built global reputations not only as performers but as ambassadors of pencak silat, the traditional Indonesian martial art that has become a signature element in many of their films.
Executives behind the collaboration see this as an opportunity to bridge Indonesian talent with international production resources, creating films that can compete on a worldwide scale. The joint venture is also expected to nurture emerging filmmakers and expand opportunities within the local industry.
For Uwais and Taslim, the move represents a natural evolution of their careers—shifting from action stars to industry leaders helping shape the future of Indonesian cinema.
