Will Smith To Star In Netflix’s Fast And Loose. UPDATE: Michael Bay Out

UPDATE: Netflix is once again searching for a director for Fast and Loose following Michael Bay’s departure from the project. Bay exited the film on Wednesday after he and star Will Smith failed to reconcile creative differences.

Smith remains attached to lead the action-thriller, which follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memory and slowly uncovers that he’s been living a double life—one as a powerful crime boss, the other as an undercover CIA operative. The screenplay comes from Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson.

The film blends action with comedic elements, but sources say Bay wanted to prioritize high-octane sequences, while Smith preferred a more humor-driven approach. With production still targeting an October start, Netflix is working quickly to secure a new director to keep the project moving forward.

Hollywood superstar Will Smith (Bad Boys For Life) is set to team-up with John Wick and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch for the action thriller Fast & Loose.

Written by Jon and Erich Hoeber (Red, The Meg), the film follows “Smith waking up in Tijuana with no memory after being attacked and left for dead, only to discover that he’s been living two different lives — one as a rich and successful crime boss, the other as a broke and lonely CIA agent. The catch is, he doesn’t know which lifestyle represents his true identity, and worse, he’s not sure which one he wants to live, either.”

Smith will also serve as producer via his Westbrook Studios partners James Lassiter and Jon Mone alongside Leitch and his 87North partner Kelly McCormick.

Stay tuned.
