UPDATE: The long-awaited Extraction 3 has received a fresh production update, confirming that the next chapter in the series starring Chris Hemsworth is finally moving closer to cameras.
According to new production listings, the sequel is currently scheduled to begin principal photography in June, with filming expected to continue through October 9th. The project will primarily shoot in Sydney, Australia, which serves as the home country of its leading star, while additional filming is reportedly planned across various locations in Europe.
The new filming plan marks something of a homecoming for both the franchise and its star. Previous entries in the series used a range of international backdrops—from India and Thailand in the original Extraction to Prague and Vienna in Extraction 2—but the third installment will finally anchor production in Australia after earlier attempts to film there were disrupted by pandemic-era restrictions.
The core creative team behind the franchise is expected to reunite for the new installment. Director Sam Hargrave, who previously helmed the first two films, is set to return to the director’s chair. Meanwhile, Joe Russo—one half of the filmmaking duo behind AGBO—is expected to once again handle the screenplay duties, continuing the collaboration that helped launch the franchise into one of Netflix’s biggest action properties.
Behind the camera, cinematographer Fraser Taggart—known for his work on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning—is reportedly attached to lens the film, signaling another visually ambitious entry for the series.
With production finally slated to begin later this summer, Extraction 3 looks poised to bring Tyler Rake back into action after several years of relative silence surrounding the project. If the schedule holds, the film could arrive sometime in 2027, continuing the story of Netflix’s globe-trotting mercenary and expanding the franchise even further.
