Warner Bros.’ New Line is already moving into the next round: Mortal Kombat III is in development, and Jeremy Slater is slated to return as screenwriter following his work on Mortal Kombat II.

Though Mortal Kombat II hasn’t hit theaters yet, insiders say the enthusiasm around that sequel has fueled early momentum for a third film. New Line appears confident in Slater’s vision and is beginning the planning stages now.

No details have been confirmed yet regarding the plot, cast, or release timing for MK III. What is clear is that the franchise is gearing up for a serious escalation.

Mortal Kombat II hits theaters on May 15, 2026.
