The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are gearing up for a comeback. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is developing a new live-action adaptation of the popular franchise.
According to sources familiar with the film, producer Neal H. Moritz (yes, the same guy behind the Sonic the Hedgehog movies) is in talks to buy into the project, signaling a big-budget, wide-appeal play.
This new movie comes as the studio quietly steps away from its previously announced adaptation of The Last Ronin. That R-rated, dystopian take was initially set to explore one Turtle’s revenge quest in a bleak future New York, but the project has been shelved as Paramount pivots back toward a broader, four-quadrant approach aimed at mainstream audiences.
The new film is being positioned as a full-scale relaunch of the TMNT brand in live action. While plot details are locked down and no director has been announced, sources describe the tone as grounded, high-energy, and character-driven, blending modern action sensibilities with the classic brotherhood dynamic that defines the franchise.
This shift doesn’t impact the animated side of the brand — Seth Rogen’s Mutant Mayhem sequel is still in development — but it does signal a clear direction for TMNT’s live-action future: new continuity, new creative leadership, and a return to the core essence of the Turtles.
With the reboot now officially in motion, casting, story details, and creative hires are expected to follow soon. The Turtles may have changed plans, but one thing’s clear — they’re not staying in the shadows for long.
