UPDATE: Jackie Chan is gearing up for another round of hard-hitting action as The Shadow’s Edge II officially begins filming. Following the impressive box office success of 2025’s The Shadow’s Edge, the sequel reunites Chan with director Larry Yang (Ride On) and a returning cast that includes Tony Leung Ka-fai.
The original film proved to be a major hit in China, holding the top spot at the box office for four consecutive weekends.
Alongside Chan and Leung, returning cast members include Ci Sha (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms), Zhang Zifeng (High Forces), and Moon Junhui (The Legend Is Born: Ip Man). A recent cast photo has also sparked speculation that veteran Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang (Twinkle, Twinkle, Lucky Stars) may be involved in the follow-up.
The sequel picks up after the imprisonment of Fu Longsheng, played by Leung. Despite his capture, police veteran Huang Dezhong (Chan) and He Qiuguo (Zhang) discover that the real mastermind behind the criminal operation remains at large. As they dig deeper, a new wave of brutal violence exposes a much larger and more secretive criminal network, forcing the investigators into a dangerous game where one wrong move could prove fatal.
The first film delivered a darker, more violent showcase for Chan, pitting the martial arts legend against Leung’s ruthless criminal mastermind. Leung’s performance earned him the Best Actor award at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards, while the film’s climactic confrontation between the two stars stood out as one of its most vicious sequences.
Rather than relying solely on elaborate martial arts choreography, the showdown embraced a raw, close-quarters brawl that pushed both actors into particularly brutal territory. The sequel will have a tough act to follow if it hopes to match the intensity of that confrontation.
The Shadow’s Edge II is currently filming. Further details, including an official release date, have yet to be announced.

A sequel to The Shadow’s Edge may still be in early development—but it’s already generating serious excitement thanks to one intriguing rumor: a possible team-up between Jackie Chan (The Shadow’s Edge) and Chow Yun-Fat (Coldwar 1994).
While nothing has been confirmed, industry chatter suggests that Chow Yun-Fat could join The Shadow’s Edge 2, potentially teaming with Jackie Chan for the first time in a major modern action production. If it happens, it would mark a rare collaboration between two of Hong Kong cinema’s most legendary screen icons—something fans have been waiting decades to see.
Director Larry Yang and producer Victoria Hon are reportedly exploring a continuation after the original film’s strong box office performance in China, where it dominated for multiple weeks. That success has made a follow-up feel less like a possibility and more like an inevitability—if the right story comes together.
In The Shadow’s Edge, Chan plays a retired surveillance expert pulled back into the field to assist a younger team tracking a high-level criminal operation. The film blends classic Hong Kong action sensibilities with a more grounded, tech-driven crime narrative—laying a foundation that could easily support a larger, interconnected story.
That framework also opens the door for new high-profile additions—like the rumored involvement of Chow Yun-Fat—whether as an ally, rival, or something in between.
For now, the sequel remains in development, and the Chow Yun-Fat rumor is just that—a rumor. But it’s the kind of speculation that instantly raises the stakes.
If The Shadow’s Edge 2 does move forward and manages to unite Chan and Chow on screen, it wouldn’t just be another sequel—it could be a landmark moment for Hong Kong action cinema, blending legacy star power with a new-generation thriller approach.
