Alan Ritchson (Reacher) is stepping into a brutal fight for survival in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi action film War Machine. The movie follows a special operations soldier whose training mission spirals into chaos after his unit encounters a massive, otherworldly robot bent on killing them.

Ritchson stars as “81,” a combat engineer and elite candidate in the Army Ranger selection program. During a punishing endurance exercise, he and his team discover they are being hunted by an “unimaginable threat,” turning what should have been a controlled drill into a desperate battle to stay alive.

The film features a strong supporting cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Esai Morales, Daniel Webber and Jai Courtney. It is directed, produced and co-written by Patrick Hughes, known for action titles such as The Expendables 3 and The Hitman’s Bodyguard.

Blending old-school action with sci-fi spectacle, the movie has been described as the kind of big, boisterous R-rated thriller that now largely debuts on streaming platforms rather than in theaters. Netflix will release War Machine globally on March 6th.
