The Kosugi ninja legacy is preparing for a major comeback. Nearly four decades after martial arts icon Sho Kosugi helped ignite the global ninja craze, his sons Shane Kosugi (Prisoner of War) and Kane Kosugi (Ninja 2: Shadow of a Tear) are carrying the family name into a new generation with the upcoming action thriller Seek.
Directed by Shane Kosugi in his feature directorial debut, the film stars martial arts champion Kansuke Asano (Barashi Fight) as Kyohei Aizawa, a deadly operative working for a covert Japanese espionage organization known as SEEK. Haunted by the death of his girlfriend in a tragic plane crash, Kyohei is suddenly pulled back into action when he’s assigned a mission involving a volatile explosive compound, a kidnapped agent, and a ruthless Yakuza syndicate led by Kane Kosugi’s villainous Sojiro Kotsuki.
The trailer leans heavily into old-school ninja mythology while blending it with slick modern action choreography. Swords clash, assassins move through neon-lit cityscapes, and Kosugi finally gets another showcase role that longtime martial arts fans have been waiting years to see. The film’s premise suggests that ninjas never truly vanished — they simply evolved into a new breed of covert protectors operating in the shadows of modern Japan.
For fans of classic Cannon-era ninja films like Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja, and Ninja III: The Domination, the project feels like a spiritual continuation of the Kosugi family’s legacy. Shane and Kane’s father, Sho Kosugi, became one of the defining faces of 1980s ninja cinema and helped transform ninja films into a worldwide pop culture phenomenon.
The film has already reportedly collected dozens of awards on the festival circuit ahead of its theatrical rollout in Japan on July 31st.
