Legendary Entertainment has acquired an exclusive license to the live-action film and TV rights for the popular Capcom video game franchise Street Fighter with the film set to be released by Sony Pictures.
Australian filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me) are set to direct the live-action film.
The last live-action Street Fighter movie made by a major studio was Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li back in 2009. That movie was a box office dud and literally killed the franchise.
A much more faithful take on the property was produced in 2014 as a web series called Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.
Let’s cross our fingers that the new live-action projects are as faithful to the video game as Assassin’s Fist.
Stay tuned.
