Legendary Entertainment has acquired an exclusive license to the live-action film and TV rights for the popular Capcom video game franchise Street Fighter.

Australian filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me) are set to direct the live-action film.

The last live-action Street Fighter movie made by a major studio was Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li back in 2009. That movie was a box office dud and literally killed the franchise.

A much more faithful take on the property was produced in 2014 as a web series called Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.

Let’s cross our fingers that the new live-action projects are as faithful to the video game as Assassin’s Fist.

Stay tuned.
