Amazon MGM Studios is stepping in to revive Heat 2 under the United Artists banner, sealing a deal after director Michael Mann (Ferrari) shopped the project earlier this year. Alongside him, heavyweight producers Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun: Maverick) and Scott Stuber (Frankenstein) are now on board.

The move marks a shift from Warner Bros., which previously held the project but faced budget friction. Under UA’s backing, Heat 2 is expected to move forward with renewed momentum.

On the casting front, Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another) is in talks to take on the role of Chris Shiherlis—originally played by Val Kilmer in the 1995 classic. Meanwhile, speculation swirls about other possible additions from A-list actors as the sequel seeks to live up to its legendary predecessor.

With Amazon MGM’s backing, Heat 2 now has fresh infrastructure and financial support to push toward production. No start date has been locked, but industry watchers expect cameras to roll sometime in 2026.
