UPDATE: Director DEAN ISRAELITE recently spoke to IGN about the film:
“I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way. It had this wonderful character that’s essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it. I remember it as a kid. I grew up with it in South Africa. When I opened the script I had no idea how it was going to be updated, and I was really impressed by it. So I put a really big presentation together, because I needed to win the job. There were a lot of guys going out for it and saw the potential in it, so I put a really big presentation together and was lucky enough to get the job. We’re in sort of a soft pre-production right now, doing a lot of design work and reimagining the world. It’s really cool and exciting.”
Lets hope Israelite delivers the ‘Power Rangers’ movie that we all have been waiting for.
You can head over to IGN for the full interview.
UDPATE: Lionsgate have announced that the film will be pushed back from July 22, 2016 until January 13, 2017.

UPDATE: According to THE WRAP, filmmaker DEAN ISRAELITE (Project Almanac) is in early talks to direct the upcoming POWER RANGERS movie.
Stay tuned for more details!
UPDATE: Looks like the Green/White Ranger himself, JASON DAVID FRANK, will be making (at least) a cameo in the upcoming POWER RANGERS movie!
When asked by ComicBook.com about his involvement in the Power Rangers reboot he said:
“I probably will be involved. They talked to me about it. I don’t know how much I am involved, but for sure cameos at least in the reboot movie.”
They asked him if he knew what direction the new film would take with its script or cast:
“No, I haven’t heard anything, except for what Roberto released. They are so tight-lipped on that project, it’s ridiculous. I don’t even know my involvement into it. They talked to me about being involved, and the fans would love to see me involved. You know, we were originally talking about a Green Ranger series, but unfortunately just due to the Lionsgate movie, they don’t want to overshadow anything or suppress the appetite of the fans, which is a little disappointing, but there’s still possibilities of it. It’s just I think they are trying to save…honestly, I think they are trying to save my appearance for the Lionsgate movie.”

LIONSGATE and SABAN are partnering up for a brand new live-action MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS movie. Creator Hain Saban believes this is a perfect partnership because he said Lionsgate “is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from ‘The Hunger Games’ to ‘Twilight’ and ‘Divergent.’ In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”
The last two ‘Power Rangers’ movies were release by 20th Century Fox in 1995 with ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie’ and ‘Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie’ in 1997.
Lets just hope they bring back KOICHI SAKAMOTO and his ALPHA STUNTS TEAM to handle the action choreography. Sakamoto handled the action for the ‘Power Rangers’ franchise from 1995’s original series up to 2009’s ‘Power Rangers R.P.M.’ His stunt team was also responsible for cult-favorites ‘Drive’ starring MARK DACASCOS and the sequel to the live-action adaptation of the anime film ‘Guyver: Dark Hero’.
If they can also somehow bring back JASON DAVID FRANK, that would be one hell of a treat for ‘Power Ranger’ fans.
Here’s hoping the action in the new movie will be as badass as the fight below:
