Action star JASON STATHAM (The Transporter) is set to team-up with writer/director KURT WIMMER (Ultraviolet), the man behind the highly underrated action film ‘Equilibrium’!
Starring a pre-‘Dark Knight’ Christian Bale, the 2002 sci-fi actioner was overlooked by many for being a ‘Matrix’ rip-off, but boy were those people wrong. ‘Equilibrium’ featured one of the slickest action choreography ever with a very unique form of ‘gun-fu’ called ‘Gunkata’.
Have a look at a music video I personally edited combining clips from the film with Linkin Park’s hit song ‘Numb’ below to have a feel of the action:
Its been long overdue for Wimmer to finally take on a new action-thriller and its super exciting to know that a high caliber action star in Statham is on board.
The currently untitled film will see Statham portray an “ex-pat Brit living in Hong Kong, who winds up going on the run with a high-level Chinese intelligence agent in order to solve a kidnapping that has potentially global implications.”
STEVEN CHASMAN (The Transporter 1, 2 & 3) will produce the movie along with GONGMING CAI and JULIEN FAVRE of Road Pictures, the Beijing-headquartered global media group.
Chasman stated: “Jason and I both have been wanting to work with Kurt for a long time. He has such an incredible vision for this film that this collaboration is particularly exciting for us. The narrative Kurt creates is incredibly rich and while our story is rooted in adventure, it is also very much character driven. We couldn’t be more fortunate to be working with him, as well as our new partners from Road Pictures, Gongming and Julien, who really comprehend the global potential for the film.”
Gongming Cai added: “This is a perfect vehicle for Jason Statham to conquer the Chinese market – he is a true global superstar who has such an authentic connection with audiences around the world. Jason is in a class by himself. There is nothing he can’t do and he proves this time and time again with every project he’s involved in. We’re excited to put this film into production, which marks the beginning of what we see as a fruitful long-term partnership with Jason Statham and Steven Chasman.”
Production is slated to take place in China and Europe. Wimmer will pen the script, but no words on if he will also direct.
Stay tuned for more details!
