UPDATE: Netflix has officially confirmed the Wu Assassins follow-up feature length film is titled Fistful of Vengeance. Roel Reiné, who directed two episodes of Wu Assassins, will helm the film which follows the “Wu Assassins reuniting in Bangkok to avenge the death of one of their own. They soon discover, however, that their new adversary is an ancient threat with otherworldly powers.”
As expected, original cast members Iko Uwais, Lewis Tan, Lawrence Kao and JuJu Chan will reprise their roles from the series. Joining them this time around are Jason Tobin (Warrior), Pearl Thusi (Quantico), Rhatha Phongam (Only God Forgives) and Francesca Corney.
Depending on how Fistful of Vengeance performs, further continuations of the Wu Assassins saga (either more movies or a second season of the series) are still on the table at Netflix.
The long awaited follow up to Netflix’s Wu Assassins is finally happening. Netflix has not made an official announcement regarding Season 2 but if you follow lead actors Iko Uwais and Lewis Tan’s social media activities, you will notice that they are both filming a project in Thailand together.
More evidence came from Thai martial arts star Simon Kook (Ip Man 3, The Foggy Mountain), who confirmed his involvement with these recent photos on his Facebook page alongside the original cast of Wu Assassins including Iko Uwais (Snake Eyes), Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat), Juju Chan (Jiu Jitsu) and Lawrence Kao (Lucky Fifty). Also pictured is Warrior star Jason Tobin, who we assume has joined the cast.
According to Tzi Ma, the second season will change things up a bit. “They’re changing the format. I think they’re going to do two kind of movies of the week instead of a series,” Ma told Digital Spy back in May 2020.
Ma will not be returning for the new films. He added, “I can’t be a part of it because I’m committed to another series. But I think that’s what they’re going to do. They’re going to do two movies of the week where Iko [Uwais]’s character moves from Thailand and South Africa. But COVID hit. I think they were going to shoot in Thailand for one movie, and then shoot in South Africa for the other.”
To clarify once again, Netflix has not confirmed anything. However, all signs are pointing to a continuation of the Wu Assassins is on the horizons.
