UPDATE: Earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios closed a new joint venture with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson which gave Amazon MGM Studios full creative control of the James Bond intellectual property rights.
Amazon MGM Studios has now set Dune franchise director Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) to helm the next James Bond movie.
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor,” said Villeneuve.
There is no official announcement yet as to who will take on the role of 007. Despite previous reports that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was offered the role, that may no longer be the case now that Amazon MGM Studios is the new studio in charge. With Villeneuve on-board as director, he will most definitely have a say in who the next James Bond will be.
Stay tuned.

According to the British tabloid The Suns, Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train) has received a “formal offer” for the role of James Bond and is expected to accept imminently.
Taylor-Johnson was in the runnings for the role since 2022 alongside Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and James Norton.
“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back,” said a source.
Production is set to roll at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire later this year.
