Lionsgate has unveiled the first official trailer for Karoshi, an upcoming action thriller that puts a violent spin on corporate culture. Produced by Chad Stahelski, the filmmaker behind the John Wick franchise, the film stars Teo Yoo (Past Lives) and Isabel May (1883).
Written and directed by Takashi Doscher, Karoshi takes place in a near-future Manhattan where corporate loyalty and Japanese cultural traditions have become deeply embedded in everyday life. When an employee dies under mysterious circumstances, an outsider infiltrates a powerful corporation and begins exposing the brutal system operating beneath its polished exterior.
The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into this dystopian corporate world, where employees are caught in a dangerous hierarchy and loyalty comes at a potentially deadly price. As the mystery surrounding the company unfolds, the story appears to build toward a violent confrontation between those enforcing the system and someone determined to bring it down.
The film’s title, Karoshi, is a Japanese term meaning death from overwork, reflecting the story’s underlying themes of workplace exploitation, corporate pressure, and the human cost of blind devotion to an employer.
Joining Yoo and May are Takehiro Hira (ShÅgun), Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent), Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), with Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) rounding out the ensemble cast.
Stahelski produces through his 87Eleven Entertainment banner alongside Jason Spitz, Alex Young, and Nathan Kahane. While Stahelski isn’t directing, his involvement should generate plenty of interest among action fans, particularly given the company’s reputation for delivering hard-hitting, meticulously choreographed action.
Karoshi is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 5, 2027, through Lionsgate.
